Prayer is central to the Christian life. St Mark’s has a dedicated group of people who meet regularly and pray together. The group leader, Glorie Singaratnam says –
“Our group is growing and consists of people who have made praying together a priority in their life. At this time we speak to God and feel His presence.
We eagerly seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit for St Mark’s. It is only through God’s Spirit that we can achieve the many gifts that God wants to bestow on us. Romans 8:26: ‘Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.’
This hour of prayer brings real joy and untold peace into our lives. It gives us an opportunity to place at God’s feet the many needs of our church and congregation.”

For prayer in church, St Mark’s is fortunate to have a votive candle stand under a beautiful wooden carving of Jesus. Beside the candle stand is a board for personal prayer requests and prayer concerns.
At the back of the church there is a basket containing prayer requests to be included in the Sunday morning intercessions. All the long term sick are read out on the last Sunday of the month.
